The land of Nizhny Novgorod is famed for its self-taught inventors, brilliant engineers, passionate researchers, and courageous test pilots — people who devoted their lives to science and technology. In 2024, we marked the 120th anniversary of the birth of Valery Pavlovich Chkalov, the legendary chief test pilot of the Gorky Aviation Plant (1934–1938), and the 110th anniversary of the death of aerobatics pioneer Pyotr Nikolayevich Nesterov.
G. P. Abaeva’s book is a collection of essays about test pilots and Heroes of the Soviet Union and Russia who have carried on the legacy of their illustrious predecessors, year after year lifting aircraft into the sky and honoring the legacy of Russian aviation.
