The book is about the childhood years of Atanas Dalchev (1904-1978), one of the most distinguished Bulgarian poets and translators of the 20th century. It was written by Dr. Huseyin Mevsim, a professor of Bulgarian at Ankara University in Turkey, whose writings have left their mark on the study of Bulgarian literary history over the last few decades. Dalchev spent the first 10 years of his life in the Ottoman Empire, specifically in Thessaloniki, where he was born, and Constantinople, after which he and his family settled in the Bulgarian capital Sofia. Dr. Mevsim's book reveals a relatively unknown side to Dalchev's personality and offers a clue to a new interpretation of his poetry through the traumas of childhood.
