The issue of the theater creation as a temporal process of making an integrated and whole work of art is introduced in the edition for the first time. On the basis of different sources and materials the author shows how “the work of art” the Moscow Artistic Academic Theater has been taking shape since the end of the XIXth century. The most important problems of Russian Soviet culture are also touched upon.
