The publication is dedicated to the history of the creation of volunteer tank formations formed in the Chelyabinsk region during the Great Patriotic War. Its main part reflects the formation process and combat path of the 63rd (244th) Guards Chelyabinsk Tank Brigade of the Ural Volunteer Tank Corps. When writing the book, a wide range of sources was used: documents from the funds of the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation; United State Archive of the Chelyabinsk Region; State Historical Museum of the Southern Urals; local history museums of the cities of Troitsk, Zlatoust, Miass, Kyshtym, Kusa; materials from the funds of the Museum of the 4th Tank Army and the Museum of Tank Forces named after. Hero of the Soviet Union V. A. Gnedin; museums of ChTZ and ChTPZ enterprises (Chelyabinsk), Uralvagonzavod (Nizhny Tagil), as well as photographs and documents from private collections. "
