The work presents researches on the problem of interrelations between demographic and cultural aspects of ancient civilizations. It introduces an original conception of forming the ancient civilizations as a result of interaction among various environmental, economic and social factors. All the conclusions received are solidly grounded with extensive references to ancient history. The consideration involves recent archaeological results received by Syktyvkar scientists during several field studies in northwest Russia.
