The present edition contains materials of the round-table discussion on “The Relevant Questions of North American History”, held by the Institute of World’s History of the Russian Academy of Science on November 23, 2005. It includes articles dedicated to the domestic political life in the XVIIIth century, the Missouri compromise (1819-1821), the questions of public opinion during “Jackson’s democracy”, as well as to the role of the American mass media in cultural self-determination (the end of the XVIIIth – first half of the XIXth centuries) and to the struggle of the northerners for renewal of the Union during the Civil war of 1861-1865.
