The monograph examines such a facet of American national identity at the end of XXth century as the perception of social and political life of the country, which was the main rival of the USA in the world arena. The book analyses the principal trends and key features of the perception of socio-political aspects of perestroika in the USSR by American public opinion, expert community and political establishment. The results of the study, reflected in the monograph, can promote a better understanding of the international perception of the image of the Soviet Union and the causal trends in the new image of post-Soviet Russia.
