A Treasury of Various Sciences… tells the story of what an 18th-century nobleman knew about the history of his homeland and how he wanted to present it to his descendants. Originally written for his sons, it was prepared with the intention of publishing it, but it remained in manuscript for over 250 years. The author discusses and strongly emphasizes the past of the Polish-Lithuanian state as a whole, while most of the Sylvas – popular notes among the Polish nobility, containing notes on various topics, written down as they were written – present the history of Poland and Lithuania separately. The original, colorful narrative is complemented by numerous illustrations, carefully selected by the publisher.
