The book is devoted to the life and activity of genious Russian inventor of steam-engine I. I. Polzunov (1729-1766). The first essay is devoted to the biography of our countrymen on the basis of known and new documents. The second one studies the problem of perception of Polzunov's destiny by contemporaries and our generation. The third one rates the Polzunov's invention as a notion of political and economic progress. In the fourth one the author tries to understand the transcendency of Polzunov's phenomenon.
